I visited Winnemucca Farms in North Nevada to meet Tom Heyn and his team.

For an artisan distillery the used raw material is everything so we couldn’t wait to see and touch the soft winter wheat what they grow.

I arrived in the middle of the harvest. The golden ocean of wheat brought up childhood memories in me. It was beautiful…

On the picture is Tom, George and Vaughn, the agronomist of Winnemucca Farms.

We looked more than a year to find a long term partner, who has exceptional quality product, is reliable and is in Nevada.

It is very difficult to find in a desert environment like ours, green farms and orchards, they are mainly only in North Nevada.

Tom and his team brought many new things to make work easier and product quality better.  For example they store their wheat in long bags, which keep fresh the grains for two years. This way is no need for expansive storage place and the seeds are protected from the weather.

I rid the combine with AJ, who showed me this fantastic vehicle!:)

It was hoooohooo! It looked like a spaceship inside. The big GPS helps and shows the way how to go around and harvest the wheat in the most economic way.

It was a great experience.
