CaEsars Palace

Caesars Palace, one of the most iconic resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, has a rich history that began with its construction in 1962.

Jay Sarno, a hotel developer and entrepreneur, envisioned Caesars Palace as a lavish and opulent resort that would transport guests to the grandeur of ancient Rome. He secured $10.6 million in financing for the project, which included a $4.2 million loan from the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund, facilitated by Jimmy Hoffa. The resort was designed by Melvin Grossman, who incorporated classical Roman themes, including marble columns, fountains, and statues.

Building such an elaborate and themed resort presented numerous challenges, including the logistics of sourcing and installing custom-made decor and the need to create an infrastructure that could support the large-scale operation of a luxury resort and casino. The total cost of construction was around $25 million.

Caesars Palace officially opened on August 5, 1966.

The resort originally featured a 14-story tower with 680 rooms, designed to offer guests the ultimate in luxury and comfort. The casino covered 30,000 sf and was designed to be opulent and inviting, featuring Roman columns, statues, and fountains.

Over the years, Caesars Palace has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, including the addition of new hotel towers, a larger casino floor, more restaurants, and an expansive shopping mall known as The Forum Shops at Caesars. The resort has become famous for its world-class entertainment, hosting performances by legendary artists and shows such as Celine Dion, Elton John, and many others.
