The Honeymoon Machine
The Honeymoon Machine is a 1961 romantic comedy film directed by Richard Thorpe, starring Steve McQueen, Brigid Bazlen, and Jim Hutton. The movie is based on the play The Golden Fleecing by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and combines humor, romance, and a touch of military satire.
The story follows Lieutenant Ferguson Howard (played by McQueen), who, along with his friend Lieutenant Jason Eldridge (Jim Hutton), devises a plan to use a Navy computer aboard a ship to beat the roulette tables at a nearby casino. The computer, originally designed for missile tracking, is used to predict winning numbers. As the scheme unfolds, complications arise when their romantic interests and commanding officers get entangled in the antics. Ferguson also develops a romantic relationship with Julie Fitch (Brigid Bazlen), adding to the comedic tension.

While not one of Steve McQueen’s most famous roles, The Honeymoon Machine showcases his versatility as an actor, transitioning from his usual action roles to comedy.
